Emma179 Posted November 24, 2015 Report Posted November 24, 2015 Hi all, I have a 1.9 tdi diesel '53' galaxy that's done 150,000. A couple of months ago something strange happened with the steering. I was turning hard right and it felt like there was an obstruction and wouldn't go any further, I forced the steering wheel and it seemed to free up and turn again. It happened a couple more times that day, but by the time I got home and got hubby to look at it, the problem had vanished. Well the same thing happened again today. I was turning hard right and it seemed to stop and have something in the way again. I persisted and it sort of clicks and gives way and carries on fine (ish). It doesn't happen every time but when it does, the steering wheel is almost immovable till it "gives". We've spent so much money on this beast of a car and if it is something simple we can do, that would be preferable. At the moment I'm scared to drive it. Don't these things always happen on the busiest weeks?! I've searched the forums but couldn't find someone with the same thing, but maybe I'm searching the wrong thing. Thanks in advance. Emma Quote
chromedome Posted November 24, 2015 Report Posted November 24, 2015 Was it raining or the roads wet at the time? If the under tray is missing then water gets to the power steering pulley causing intermittent steering failure because the belt slips. Quote
Emma179 Posted November 24, 2015 Author Report Posted November 24, 2015 Thanks. No particular rain at that moment. I've spoken to the garage and they suspect a coil, so will update when I know :) Thanks for the suggestion. Quote
Emma179 Posted November 25, 2015 Author Report Posted November 25, 2015 I doubt anyone will ever need to refer to this post to solve a similar problem, but this little beauty was to blame http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/EmmaL179/Stone.jpg between the subframe and the steering rack! Quote
